Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month: Strength, Progress, and the Power of Community

“The Greatest Gift Ever Given”
When Andy Matthews was growing up with hemophilia, treatment options were limited and often uncertain. He was fortunate to live across the street from a hematologist who encouraged his parents to try something groundbreaking at the time — administering treatments at home. Andy became one of the first individuals in the country to receive home infusions, supported by blood donations from a local Navy squadron.
Like many in that era, he later faced additional health challenges due to early plasma-based therapies. But when Andy reflects on his journey, he doesn’t start with hardship.
He calls hemophilia “the greatest gift ever given.”
It gave him resilience, perspective, and lifelong friendships. It gave him a deep understanding of what it means to live with both vulnerability and strength.
Today, Andy brings his experience to his role at AcariaHealth. When he speaks with patients and families, he understands the questions they may not even know how to ask. He knows what it feels like to wait for medication approvals, navigate insurance hurdles, and balance hope with uncertainty.
And that empathy changes everything.
Progress That Carries Hope
The world of bleeding disorders treatment has transformed since Andy’s childhood. Recombinant and extended half-life therapies, non-factor treatments, and emerging gene therapies have redefined what’s possible.
For patients today, these innovations mean greater safety, flexibility, and freedom.
At AcariaHealth, we are proud to help ensure these advancements are accessible, not just available. Because access to therapy is more than a clinical milestone; it’s the ability to plan for a future with confidence.
Transforming Lives Through Compassionate Care
Managing a bleeding disorder requires more than medication. It requires advocacy, education, coordination, and someone willing to walk alongside you.
Our hematology team partners closely with providers, treatment centers, and families to help remove barriers, simplify complexity, and support every step of the care journey.
This is what transforming lives through compassionate care looks like in action:
- Listening before leading
- Advocating when challenges arise
- Ensuring patients receive the benefits and therapies they’re entitled to
- Treating every individual not as a diagnosis, but as a person with dreams, goals, and a future
When care is seamless, patients feel supported to make the most of their treatment plans. Explore our hematology resources.
Strength in Community
Caring for bleeding disorders extends beyond the pharmacy. It lives in the connections between patients, caregivers, advocates, and healthcare teams who show up every day with determination and heart.
This March, we honor the progress made, the community that sustains it, and the individuals like Andy who remind us why this work matters.
Because when compassion guides care, lives are not only supported, they are transformed.
